The medicinal benefits of cannabis continue to be illuminated more and more over time. As medical marijuana becomes legal across the country, research into its potential healing properties is being sought after by scientists and researchers everywhere. While many are familiar with THC, the psychoactive compound present in cannabis that induces a sense of euphoria, not quite as many people are familiar with CBD. This is the other compound in cannabis that is used for its medicinal purposes. CBD is a powerful anti-inflammatory that has the ability to treat pain. It is generally considered the more medicinally active of the 2 compounds although both contain properties that are very beneficial to overall health and aid in the treatment of a number of conditions.

The endocannabinoid system in the body is made up of CB1 and CB2 receptors. Each receptor governs the equilibrium of essential bodily functions such as appetite, sleep, mood and many more. When the body is unable to produce endocannabinoids naturally due to illness or age, consuming cannabis can help to produce the endocannabinoids that will communicate with the receptors and restore physical health.
